Icecore past number one

1. Icecore
2. Matt Whyman
3. up to Chapter 10
4. The bad guys have taken the main character to a prison in the Arctic because he broke into the Fort Knox website and now terrorists are using his hacking to get our gold. He is trying to find a way to escape as they transport him so he can go back and stop the terrorists.
5. It's pretty good. At the end of each chapter the author leaves you hanging and you to want to read more
6. The author has made up a whole series that he can keep using the same characters. This is the first one in the series
7. The theme is a mystery. It is hard to tell who is the good guy and who is the bad guy
8. Carl He is a genius and can hack into computer systems. He has changed in that he has found out how serious things can get if you hack into things. He now is thinking that it isn't a game anymore.
9. "I think the worst is over," I say. Williams ignores me but I don't turn and face the front. "I just wish that applied to me as much as it does to you." Williams is talking only about the flight but Carl is worried about what will happen to him in prison.
10. I'm wondering about how Carl is going to escape from the prison.

1. Escape from Furnace: Fugitives
2. Alexander Gordon Smith
3. I have read up to Page 228 of the 270 total pages in the book
4. The main characters have escaped from a very strange prison full of weird creatures and messed up people. The warden released the rest of the prisoners so they could catch the escapees and take over the city and maybe the world by using the nectar they can drink to become very strong. Some of the people who get the nectar don't change into the strong men and become mutants and they must be killed.
5. I think the book is awesome because it talks about prisons, violence, monsters, and war. That's the kind of stuff I like.
6.This book is part of a series and is Number 4. The author does a great job of leaving you hanging at the end of each book and you want to read the next one. The plot stays the same with the prison idea but it keeps changing each time.
7. It's about kids using their brains to escape the prison and get help to free the other kids in the prison.
8. Alex is the best and he is the main character of all of the books. He is good because he is smart, has common sense, is a good fighter, is bionic, and is good leader when he wants the other kids to work together.
9. "The warden didn't experiment on your you-know-what, did he?" I like this because it is funny and the guy who said this, Simon, likes to mess around.
10. Why does Alex always keep getting caught and how do they know where to go to find him? Is there a snitch in the prison?
1. Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone
2.J.K. Rowling
3. Chapter 8
4. Harry was trying to find out who was trying to steal the Sorcerer's Stone because he thinks Snape is on Valtimort's side.
5. I think it is good because it's interesting and what happens is exciting with some sad tossed in.
6. This is part of a series that shows the students at Hogwarts as they grow up. She had more ideas and couldn't put all of them in one book.
7. Innocent versus evil. How the innocent tries to solve using magic what the bad guys are doing.
8. Harry Potter He is the best at using the magic and solving the mystery. It is fun when he finds out he has a new magic skill he didn't know about.
9. Hagrid is telling Harry what happened to his parents. "You-know-who killed 'em. An' then  ------- an' this is the myst'ry of the thing ----- he tried to kill you, too." and now Harry is worried that he will come back to try and kill him too.
10. I wondered if Valdimort is trying to steal the stone and use it to fight Harry and kill him.

Rachel Hebert-Post #3

I'm reading The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkein. I'm more than halfway through the book. Right now in the book, Bilbo Baggins is saving his dwarf friends from giant spiders with a special sword that spiders apparently don't seem to like all that much, and of course, the ring after all of them entered this spooky forest and all but Bilbo got tied up in spider silk. The book is extremely good. There are no boring parts and you can tell that the author spent his time trying to think like the characters and put that point of view in the book.
I think that J.R.R. Tolkien wrote this because it seems like this would be the sort of thing that he would have daydreamt about as a kid, and he wanted to cram all those ideas into the book. Or, from using what my sister told me, because he was in WWI, there's a theory that he based the magical world in the book off of the different feuding countries in the war.
I think one of the themes in this story is that someone who is very underestimated can end up being more of a hero than those who underestimated him(Bilbo, of course.)
Bilbo has to be my favorite character because he's funny when he's not trying to be and he's also courageous and willing to try new things, which is pretty much the whole journey for him. He's grown alot throughout the course of the book. He's become more daring and adventurous, and I think he's now wanting to prove all of the people, or other magical creatures, wrong.
“A box without hinges, key, or lid,
Yet golden treasure inside is hid.”

  “Alive without breath,
    As cold as death;
    Never thirsty, ever drinking,
    All in mail never clinking.”

Those riddles are two of my favorites in the book. They're important to the story because it shows how clever Bilbo can be.

I don't really have any questions about my book except what's going to hapen at the end!

-The answer to the first riddle was an egg, and the answer to the second was a fish

Alex Felton Blog Post 3

I am reading the Maze Runner by James Dashner. I am almost done with the book. It is about a boy, named Thomas, and he was sent up an elevator one day and brought into a new world, the Glade. The Glade is a place that was made by people. In the Glade, are boys of ages ranging from 12 to 20, they have made a life of their own for two years. It is a huge stone-enclosed area that has doors that open in the day. The stone walls open up to a huge maze that the Gladers have been trying to solve for two years, but have had no luck. Not much has happened in the Glade, every 30 days a new boy is sent up the elevator, with their memory wiped clean. But this all changes when Thomas shows up in the elevator, that day things start to become weird around there. Then, the very next day a girl shows up, and her and Thomas find out that they have a connection and they are telepathic. From that day on things dramatically change and Thomas and the girl, Teresa start to figure out how the Gladers can escape the Glade. Right now I am where they have just devised a plan and are leaving to go see if it works. Their plan seems simple, but it is very scary and hard to do. I am excited to see the outcome; if they escape or not.
I really like this book, it keeps you guessing and on your toes. I like the authors way of thinking and describing the story. I can't wait to see what happens at the end!
I think that the author either had a dream about the future, or let his mind run wild. The book is so weird and good at the same time. It is cool how he takes the future and his imagination and writes about it. This guy has pretty cool ideas, and that is why I think he wrote the Maze Runner.
I think the theme is bravery. To go through what these kids are going through, you have to be very brave and trust yourself. They are doing stuff that no one would imagine having to do as an adult, better yet a child. Thomas plays a very brave person in this novel and its really cool how the author describes it.
My favorite character is Chuck. Chuck is Thomas's friend. Even in the darkest times in the Glade, Chuck is always upbeat and motivating to the other Gladers. Chuck does anything he is asked of and never refuses to stop trying to help to escape the maze. Even when Thomas doesn't realize it, Chuck is always there for him if he falls down. Chuck is a character in the book, but anyone would want someone like him as their friend.
"You can do this." This is a quote from the book. It is what Thomas thinks to himself as they leave for their plan. I thought it was important because it shows that he still has hope and he will always be fighting to escape the maze.
My question is: Will they escape the maze?

I am reading a Deadly Little Secret and the author is Laurie Faira Stolarz. I am currently on chapter 11 and Cameila's ex boy friend asked her for help to totutor him in a language class. The way he repays her is looking up this guy that saved her life is is supposedly killed his girlfriend. This book is a good book and it has some action and suspense that is the reason I like it. I think the author wrote this book about her teen years or so modern teens years. To talk about her or some teens life. I think the theme of this book is friendship and to show you how these particular teens get along as friends. I think the best charector in this book is Cameila because she is always happy and gets along well with everybody. I do not have any questions on what is going on in my book.

I am reading the first book in the Black Butler graphic novel series. Yana Toboso wrote this series. I am on the third chapter in the first book. So far the master of the Phantomfive family has been kidnapped and Sebastian, the butler, is coming to save him.
I like this series because it has a lot of action. The butler also has a good sense of humor and all around good guy. I think the author wrote this to create a good storyline for older teens. I believe this was her motivation because most older teens love books with action. The theme in the first book is protection because Sebastian keeps him protected and will protect him at all costs.
The best character is Sebastian the butler because he can do many things while being devoted to protecting his master. A quotation from the first book is by Sebastian when he says, "Only two kinds of people exist in this world, those who steal and those who are stolen from." This is important because it shows his values. Some questions I have is what is going to happen, and who really is Sebastian?

I am on page 226 of Jefferson Bass's "The Bone Yard". So far in the book I know the main character is Bill Brackton, who owns what is called a body farm. Where students go to study forensics science. Bill is called away when one of his students asks him to help solve case with her. Her name is Angie and the reson she calls him is to help her prove that her sister did not kill herself, she was indeed murdered. She also calls him because he does this kind of stuff everyday. They start to look over all the evidence that the crime scene crew should have gone threw, but did not look close enough to have any proof.
I will say that this book in not turning out the way I thought it was going to. I was hoping for it to have so kind of suspence or action to keep me wanting to read more, even though I am only on chapter 7. I do think it has a good story but it's not action packed like I was hoping for. I will keep reading though becuse I do wounder how Angies sister died.
I believe that Jefferson may have written this book becuase something like this happened to him or a loved one. He might even just be interested in the forensics science feild aswell. Or like some/ most stories they just come to you( they just pop right out of your head. He might want the reader to think about, that stuff like this happens where the cops don't take a close enough look and the persons story will never be told. Lots of people die every day and sometimes you should take a minute and that ther life was just taken from them, they would not have done that to themself.
My favorite character so far is Angie. I like her because even when it felt like the whole world was aginst her, she never stopped. She would not give on her sister like that. She thinks its time for the true story to be told. At this point of the book I am left woundering if her sister killed herself or if she was indeed murdered.

I have read the graphic novel series Deathnote written by Tsugumi Ohba. I read all fifteen books in the series. In this series, an excellent student named Light, finds a notebook called the Deathnote. The purpose of this notebook was when you wrote somebodies name in the book they would die. He used it to kill criminals and for good, but even though he was using it this way he turned into a murderer. Then L, an expert investigator, tries to find Light, and throughout the series they try to outsmart each other. In the end, L dies but his prodigy catches Light.
This was one of my favorite series because it always caught you off guard and made you want to know more. I think the author wrote this to tell you the troubles of being able to have ultimate power. I think this was her motivation because many people want this, but they do not know the harm. The theme in this series was greed because Light always wanted more.
The best character was L because he never gave up and always thought of good ways to catch Light. He changed when Light finally outsmarted him and died. One quotation was L saying, “I just can’t sit any other way than this. If I sit the way other people do, my reasoning ability drops by 40%.” This is important because he sat a certain way to figure out situations which was very important in the book. A couple questions I have over this series is what would have happened if Light wasn't caught, and what would happen if someone else got their hands on this notebook?

1st blog Dillon Drake

I have finished the graphic novel series Full Metal Alchemist written by Himoru Arakawa. There were twenty-seven books in the series and I have finished them all. What happened in the series was that there was a young boy and his brother who tried to use alchemy to bring their dead mother back from the dead, but it failed and the brother lost his soul and the boy lost his arm and leg. They go on many quests to find out how they can regain their bodies and in the last book they final reach "the truth" and get there bodies back while saving mankind.
I like this series because it gets your attention and keeps it, and it is very interesting to read. I think the author wrote this to create another world situation. I think this motivated her because it catches a lot of other peoples attention. The theme of this series was the seven deadly sins because the names of the villains were the names of the seven deadly sins.
The best character is Ed because he is the main character and is the one with the most values. He grew because he learned how to use alchemy properly. One quotation from the book is "I am not a shrimp!" because he is portrayed as someone who is very big, but when people see him they are surprised and he gets very angry at that. Some questions I want to know is what happens next and what happens to their father afterwords. Overall this series was very intriguing.

olivia erenberger blog 2 deadly little secret

I am still reading the book Deadly Little Secret and the author is Laurie Faria Stolarz. I am courently in chapter nine and Camelia is partnered up with Ben (the kid who saved her life), and it seems to be that she has a crush on Ben for science class. When Camelia accidently runs into John Kenneally (Camelia's best friend Kimmie's crush) and Kimmie becomes jealous and wondering what he smelled like and what it felt like. This book has gotten a little less interesting because it doesn't have as much action in it and I'm hoping it gets better soon. I think that the author Laurie Stolarz wrote this story to maybe tell a story about her life or a modern teens life. When reading this book it makes me think of modern day life of a teen and friendship. The best character in my opinion would be Cameila because she is always so positive she has not really changed at all form the beginning to wear I'm at now. I don't have any questions right now but I did have one, I had the characters mixed up but I figured them out.
I just fineshed reading Zombies VS. Unicorns, and it was really great. I was expecting a bigger ending but the end was just a short story like the rest of the book. I loved bolth the zombie and the unicorn storys but I will definately always be on team unicorn. Just to refresh your memory there are two teams and they compete against each other by writing storys. Each story has a different author. I would definitely recommend this book for a mature audience because there is a lot of violence and language in this book. One of the good things about this book is that you can see the different writing styles of all the authors and you can look up other books written by. In the back of the book they also have the authors names and some books they have written. I'll be excited to start another great book!

Simon Duster 3rd blog

I have read Brisinger by Christopher Paolini for my third blog. I finished the book a couple days ago and I liked the whole story again like I did last year. Starting in the book, Eragon is with his cousin Roran and they are rescuing Katrina, who is Roran's bethrothed. The book continues the story with Eragon traveling with the Varden in their campaign to cast down Galbatorix, the evil king.
I think that this series is very good because Paolini does a very good job with writing an action packed, quick-moving, engaging story line that keeps readers engaged and wanting more. I am into fantasy myself, so I enjoy medievel stories with swordfighting, magic, and dragons, all of which are in this book.
I think that Christopher wanted to write this for his family, as it says in the beginning, and for other people who love fantasy as much as he did. I think that the theme is that no matter the odds, with enough determination and courage, you can overcome it. The whole storyline is of freedom fighters pitting themselves against a king who is a Dragon Rider, therefore, very strong in sword fighting and magic, and he has a massive kingdom with thousands of soilders protecting him. Even though they don't have much, the Varden have a Dragon Rider too. Eragon is that rider and in order to beat Galbatorix, he must go through obstacle after obstaacle to overcome this huge challenge.
Eragon is by far the best character. He is a witty, thoughtful, and well-written character. He goes from an ordinary farm boy, to a noble Rider and with it he learns, humility, courtesy, kindness, and becomes increasing thoughtful through out the story.
A quote I found was, "'Accounts of past atrocities are often exaggarated and distorted. That much you should keep in find. No one but your mother knows exactly what she did, nor why, nor how she felt about it, and she is not still among the living to explain herself.'" This is when Oromis, Eragon's teacher, who is also a Rider, tells Eragon about his mother and how she worked for Morzan, who was a servant of Galbatorix. She served as his helping hand and often did terrible things. Stories agbout these events became worse and worse, giving everyone else a bad impression of her. If stories are passed around about someone, they will change and potentially turn negative, which is no fun for the victim of the story. It is also not right, since people will think of that person badly. This is why telling rumors is bad.
I don't have any questions about this book.

Rachel hebert-blog 2 10-23-12

I am reading The Hobbit by J.R.R Tolkein. I'm a little past half way through the book, and there are pretty much no boring parts anywhere in the book. So, Bilbo sets off with a whole bunch of dwarves and a wizard to retrieve treasure that the evil dragon Smaug is guarding. To help them through a trecherous forest, Gandalf, the wizard, decides that they'll stop at Beorn's house at the edge of the woods. I'm not sure if I'm explaining this right, but Beorn is a bear who can talk(I'm pretty sure everything talks in this series) that can also shape-shift into different things like humans and other animals(most of which are huge). Because he lives by the forest, he has knoledge he can tell them and supply them with food and other items that would help them through the forest. Right now, the group is in the forest, but they really hate it because there's no end in sight, and at night, It's so dark that you can't see your hand in front of your face.
I really like the book because it has really imaginative characters and you can tell that the author spent his time to make the book show it as he saw their world.
I think that the author wrote this book because he probably dreamt of hobbits and other creatures in the book when he was a child, and he wanted to write about them.
There are definately alot of themes in this book, but I think that one of the most important ones is that you can break free from your stereotype(I'm not using that word just because it's in word study) and turn out to be more of a hero-figure than those who underestimated you to begin with. By the way, I'm pretty much talking about Bilbo.
Of course, I have to say that the best character is Bilbo because he funny, but also pretty witty. he's grown alot by becoming more adventurous and learning that adventurous is okay. I also really like Thorin because he's one of the smartest and leader-like one of the dwarves.
"Short cuts make for long delays" is one of my favorite quotes from the book because it's saying that in the long run, taking the easy way out will just make it all the harder later.
I don't really have any questions, except what's going to happen at the end!

Lorin Brokaw's Third Blog About Pretties

I am reading Pretties by Scott Westerfeld. I have read about two thirds of the book. So far Tally has got voted in as a Crim, which is a name for a clique, met someone special named Zane, and took the cure, a pill that makes you bubbly. I think it is good because it's very exciting and has a lot of surprises.  The author wrote this because he wanted us to be happy with who we are and about being brave. Tally and Zane where very brave in creating the biggest trick in the world right under Special Circumstances' noses. Tally is the best character because she is the most human pretty in New Pretty Town, and you can relate to her more than other pretties. She has changed a lot because at the beginning of the book all she wants to be is a pretty, but now she realizes that there is more important things than being pretty like thinking for yourself. "You're offering me a . . . job? As a Special?" This quotation is important to the story because now Tally has to decide whether to join the specials, stay a pretty, or go back to the Smoke. It is also a turning point. A question I have is What is becoming of Zane and his headaches?

blog# 1 deadly little secret -olivia erenberger

The book I am reading is the Deadly Little Secret the author of this book is Laurie Faria Stolarz. So far I have got to chapter 4 and a girl named Camelia  almost gets hit by a car and a boy saved her life and Camelia tries to find out his name. This book is good and very interesting so far it has action and keeps you wondering what is going to happen next. I think that the author wrote this book to tell a story of her life to show how crazy things can just happen in this world. The theme of this book seems to be mystery and makes you think about what is going to happen next. I personally think the best character in this book is Camelia because she is always happy. I got the character mixed up but I asked someone else that was reading the book and got them aligned.

Suma Janecek Blog 3 The Hunger Games

I am reading The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins.I just finished the book. The gamekeepers changed the rule that if there are two tributes from the same district, they can both be the winners of the Hunger Games. Katniss goes and finds Peeta by the lake and he has an injury. She and him hide in a cave so they don't get caught. The gamekeepers announce that at the Cornucopia will be a package that will help each of the tributes. While Peeta is asleep, Katniss goes and gets the package and brings it back to the cave. Inside the package is medicine that they use to heal Peeta's leg. The next morning Peeta's leg is healed and they go out hunting. It quickly becomes dark and they start being chased by wild dogs who lead them to the last and dangerous tribute, Cato. Katniss and Peeta fight Cato and then he dies by getting ripped apart by the dogs. The sun rises and they announce that the rule about two tributes winning will not happen and that there will only be one winner. They both can't decide who is going to die, so Katniss gives them both berries that will kill them instantly. Right before they were about to eat it, it was announced that they both will be the winners of the Hunger Games.
I think the book is really good. It always kept me reading and there wasn't a part where it wasn't good. The action continued throughout the whole book. I think Suzanne wrote this book because it has something that everyone can enjoy like: friendship, action, and a love story. The theme in this story is loyalty, bravery, and friendship. The way the Katniss went to go find Peeta, so that they both had a shot at winning the games.
I think the best character is still Katniss. She's such a strong girl, she's a good friend, and she'll do anything for anyone. She has really grown because she never really trusted or liked Peeta, but now she was willing to do anything for him.
"You won't get a hundred yards from here on that leg." I say. "Then I'll drag myself," say Peeta. "You go and I'm going, too." It's important because it shows how much Peeta cares about Katniss and how he doesn't want her to go out and risk her life for him.
A question that I have is: Why do they make twelve year old kids compete in the games?

Carly Croy: Second Blog 10/22/12

I am currently reading the book Thirteen Reasons Why, and I haven't been reading for awhile because I have been so busy besides what I have done in class and little outside of class. But I am about halfway through the book, and it is just so good. Currently Clay Henson (the main character) is still listening to Hannah Baker's suicide tapes and has just finished the second tape. In this second tape Hannah has found out that the is a per-say, "peeping tom" looking through her windows at night. And her and her friend were gossiping on purpose to grab his attention and saying bad things about people until they caught him right when he would snap a picture. I like this book because once again it is very realistic and funny. The characters so far are Clay Jenson (currently listening to tapes), Hannah Baker (committed suicide and made tapes), a boy name Tyler who is the supposed "peeping tom", and the girl who helped catch Tyler in the act. Her name has not been given yet. The theme of this book is truth and society. Because all the things in this book do happen. And it kind of almost proves to us what is right and wrong throughout our society. A quote from this book is, "Everyone knows you can't disprove a rumor." This quote says to me, that you can't control what people say unless you're completely perfect in anyway and there is nothing bad to say about you. But that's impossible because, nobody's perfect. A question about this book is, when Jay Asher, the author, wrote this book, did he intend on making Clay the biggest and thirteenth reason why Hannah Baker committed suicide?

Blog Post #2 Alex Felton

I am currently reading a novel called The Maze Runner. It was written by James Dashner. I am about three fourths of the way through the book. So far, a boy named Thomas was put in an elevator and lifted up into a new world, called the Glade. It was a huge area, surrounded by stone walls, created by people who were testing their abilities. It consists of about 100 boys, that work together to make a world of their own. Thier life consists of escaping the maze. When Thomas arrives, everything seems to be change. Then a girl arrives the day after Thomas. Now, everything bad seems to happen. But, Thomas and the girl start to figure out why and how they are in the Glade. Right now they figure out that there is no escape and the creators are putting more and more challenges on them to see who can survive it. It is almost like a game that the creators have created for them.
I think that it is a very good book, it keeps you interested and wondering.
I think that the purpose of writing this book was too feel a new sense of adventure and interest. It is also about the future and what might happen to the world.
The theme is courage and strength. This book has courage because he is always having to overcome obstacles, and keep going and trying to find a solution to the maze. It is also about strength because he couldn't be where he is without his strength to keep fighting with what is happening with the creators.
My favorite character is the girl, Teresa. She is very funny and bull-headed. She doesn't let anyone boss her around. Even when bad things happen in the Glade, she always fights to try to figure out what to do.
"He wouldn't quit until he solved the puzzle and found a way home." This quote is important because it shows how determined he is, and how his courage and strength could pull him though to the end, till they find a way back home.
I have two question about this book. Why did the creators make the Glade? How are they going to escape?

Suma Janecek Blog 2 The Hunger Games

I am reading The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins. I was about two thirds of the way through. This part of the book is mainly about the games. At the beginning of the battle over half of the tributes get killed. Peeta joins up with the tributes who are the most dangerous to track down Katniss. Peeta and the other tributes find Katniss up in a tree and are waiting for the right moment to kill her. Rue, a twelve year old tribute, is in the tree next to Katniss and shows her a nest that lies tracker jackers, the most dangerous types of bugs. She cuts the branch where the nest is and it falls down and it explodes stinging the tributes and killing most of them. Later, her and Rue team up and decide to blow up the other tributes supplies. Rue distracts them and Katniss blows up the supplies, but when Katniss gets back to Rue, Rue gets stabbed and then dies.
I think the book so far is really good. The games are really intense and violent and it makes you want to know what is going to happen next.Suzanne keeps the action going without losing it. I think Suzanne wrote this book because it is a really good future story, but it is also a good story about friendship especially between Rue and Katniss. The theme in this story is about friendship and bravery. The way Katniss was going to blow up the supplies, and how she could've gotten caught and killed.
I think the best character is still Katniss because she's strong and will do anything for the people she cares about like her sister and Rue. I feel Katniss has grown as a character because she didn't really trust anyone at the beginning, but now she's starting to.
"Was she dead?" asks the boy from District 2. "No, but she is now." says Peeta. I think it is important because it shows how much Peeta has changed from when he was more innocent to how he's gotten more violent.
One question I have is:Why haven't the other tributes killed Peeta if they don't really need him since they found Katniss?

Lorin Brokaw's Blog About Pretties: Blog Two

I am reading a book called Pretties by Scott Westerfeld. I'm one third of the way done and have two thirds to read. Tally Youngblood, the main character, is a sixteen year old girl who just turned pretty. She wants to forget her past and focus on being pretty, popular, and bubbly, but,  no matter what Tally Youngblood does, her past keeps on coming back to haunt her in unexpected ways. So far this book is really good. It makes you happy that your not perfect because Tally has lots of problems that apparently perfect people have (it took her three hours to come up with a costume that people would think says criminal!). I think the author wrote this because he wants us to be happy with who we are. I also think he wrote this because he wanted us to think about being brave like Tally. The theme of this book is bravery. One of the quotes from my book is: " Tally, you gave yourself up, knowing you'd have to risk the cure. That's amazingly brave." Tally learns how to be brave in this book. She changes by not wanting to take the cure to taking the cure to help herself and pretties all over the world from being brain damaged. I was wondering why David never came to get Tally like he was supposed to? What happened to him? Is he still mad at her even though she tried to make it up to him?

Suma Janecek Blog 1 The Hunger Games

I am reading a book called The Hunger Games, written by Suzanne Collins. I was about a third of the way through. The book is about a sixteen year old girl named Katniss who lives in the nation of Panem, formally known as North America. She lives in district 12, one of the poorest. Every year the Capitol hosts an event called the Hunger Games. The Hunger Games is when two tributes, a boy and a girl, from all twelve districts fight to the death so there can only be one winner. She and her twelve year old sister sign in to be apart of the drawing to see who gets picked to be in the games. When its time for the names to be drawn, Prim gets chosen to be the female tribute. Katniss bravely steps up and takes the place of her sister. The boy tribute is Peeta Mellark. Both Peeta and Katniss have a mentor named Haymitch who get sent to the Capitol to practice fighting and come face to face with who they're fighting against. Each tribute gets interviewed by a guy named Caesar. Katniss tells everyone her story about taking the place of her sister while winning the hearts of everyone in the Capitol. Peeta wins the hearts by making everyone laugh but then admitting he has feelings for Katniss. Now everyone is suspicious to see what will happen between Peeta and Katniss in the games.
I think the book is really good because they're a lot of interesting things that happen and it keeps you reading. Something good will happen and then once you think it can't get any better it does. I think the author thought it would be a good future book because it tells the future of North America and how bad everything has gotten. How almost everyone is working and they barely have anything to eat. The theme in this book is courageous, friendship, responsibility, and loyalty. Taking the place of her little sister took a lot of courage especially with how violent the games are and how you're more than likely going to die.
I think Katniss is the best character so far. I really like how brave she is especially knowing that taking the place of her sister she was probably going to die. I think Katniss has really grown as a character because at the beginning she didn't care how she came off to the Capitol. Now she really thinks and tries to come off as a nice and  innocent girl because that could possibly save her life.
"Well there is this one girl. I've had a crush on her ever since I remember. I don't think it's going to work out. Winning won't help in my case, because she came here with me." This quote is important because it really sets up the relationship between Peeta and Katniss.
One question I've had is: How did North America turn into Panem and how did everything get so bad?

I am reading a book called Maze Runner, written by James Dashner. Right now I am about half of the way through. This book is about a sixteen year old boy, who woke up one day in an elevator. His memory had been cleared and all he could remember was his name, Thomas. When he wakes up and the elevator doors open he is in a new world called the glade. The glade is a huge room-like area, enclosed by stone walls on all four sides. The Glade is made up of male kids, ranging from 13 to 20. Every 30 days a new boy is sent up the elevator. These boys have made a living in the Glade, but they are trapped inside this stone arena and the only way to get out is to solve the maze. The maze is on the outside of the Glade, and it is huge, but they still haven't found a way out. Things have consistently been this way for two years, but now, all that is about to change. A day after Thomas arrives in the Glade, the elevator doors open and a girl is laying there. She carries a note in her hand, and all it says is, "She's the last one. Ever." Now they are suspicious and they know things are about to change.
I think that this is a good book because it keeps you reading and something interesting always happens. Something that you don't suspect happens a lot and it has a lot of action. I think that the author wrote the book because they had a thought about the future and decided to write about how he thought the world will be in the future.
I think that the themes of this book are courage, friendship, and trying new things. Surviving in the Glade takes a lot of courage because you have to try new things and always be willing to go to the extreme to survive and keep all of the Gladers alive. Thomas would never survive in the Glade without the help and support of his friends. There is no handbook to living in the Glade, so you have to be willing to try new things, and work out problems that the creators give you. To live in the Glade is a struggle every day, so these things help them survive.
I like Chuck the best so far. Right from the first day in the Glade, Chuck has been there for Thomas and helps Thomas solve his problems and fears. Chuck is a bubbly, positive, 13 year old boy who has been in the Glade for about 30 days when Thomas gets there. Before Thomas, Chuck didn't really have any friends, but with Thomas he goes to the extreme to be there for Thomas. I like Chuck because he is really good to everyone, and is polite to everybody.
"But happiness had been ripped from their lives. Love had been ripped from their lives." This quote is important because it shows the turning point of Thomas's mind set of the Glade. This is when Thomas realized that this was his life for now, but he is now determined to get out of the Glade and solve the maze.
It was kind of confusing at the beginning of the book, but now I understand it. My only question is: Why was the Glade and the maze created, and by who?

blog #2 josey hajek

I am reading "The Bone Yard" by Jefferson Bass. I am on page 223, the sarting page of chapter 7. In this book so far there are two main characters. One of them has a family member comit suicide but she does not think that her sister would kill herself without saying good bye, or something. So Angie calls her friend to come and look into the case with her because he is a forensics scientist and he does stuff like thing every day. They are looking through everything they have to prove she didn't kill her self, that she was infact murdered. At first I thought that this was going to be more entertaining but as it goes on I am starting to like it a little better. I think it has a good story line so far, but it is not intense enough for me. I like that make want to keep reading because I'm scared or worried about the characters in the future. I believe that Jefferson might have wrote this because he had seen a case like this and thought it might make a good book, or maybe something like this happened to him and his family. Or he just be interrested in forensic science. He might have wanted the reader to think about how people are killed every day and sometimes no one will ever be punished for it cause the police did not take a good look at the crime scene. My favorite character at this point is Joanna. Her job is to make a face for any skulls that are found and no one knows who they are. She used to take 3 months but for this certain case it only took a week to make a good recreation. I like her because I would love to do that job, I think it would be so fun. At this piont of the book I am still left woundering if Angies sister really killed herself, or if she was murdered?

I am curently reading Zombies VS. Unicorns. This book doesnt have just one or two authors like most books do. It has a total of twelve authors who are separated into two teams, team zombie and team unicorn. Team unicorns authors are Kathleen Duey, Meg Cabot, Garth Nix, Margo Lanagan, Naomi Novik and Diana Peterfreund. Team unicorns authors are Libba Bray, Alaya Dawn Johnson, Cassandra Clare, Maureen Johnson, Scott Westenfeld and Carrie Ryan. The two teams switch on and off between teling storys about unicorns or zombies. Inbetween each story they have humorus small arguments about wich is better, zomibeies or unicorns?  I've read a little ore than half way through the book. Lots of thing have been happening in the book considering there are many different storys ,but they like to write about didfferent forms of bolth zobies and unicorns. Team uncorn has writen about killer unicorns, nice unicons, caged and endangered unicorns and even educated city unicorns. Team zobie has witen about robotic zombies, man eating zobies, zombies in hiding and even zombies who avoid eating people. So far i think the book is really good because there always coming up with somthing new. I think they author wrote this dook because he/she are creative and they wanted somthing fresh and new. Theres always big ideas in books and i think this books big idea is expect they unexpected. In each story theres different charecters but its usually they charecters that your maine charecter encounter are the best. They are always full of life and all so different. 'Unicorns exist in pop culture as bubble-gum colored, riding over rainbows, full of sparkles and stars''- Meg Cabot. I want to know how they thought of writing a book with multipul authors and how it was exicuted with that many people.

Lorin Brokaw's Blog 1 About Uglies

I am reading a book called Uglies. Uglies is by Scott Westerfeld. I have finished the book. It is a futuristic book about a girl named Tally. Tally is about to turn sixteen and pretty when her friend Shay runs away from the city. The mean and cruel specials make her go after shay to a place called the Smoke, where rebellious uglies who don't want to turn pretty go. After a long and dangerous journey Tally makes it to the Smoke where she learns a terrible secret that makes her want to stay ugly, falls and love, and accidentally destroys the Smoke. I think that this book is good because it makes you appreciate that we are all different and that the government isn't the way it is in the book. I think the author wrote this because the he was interested in writing about the future and what would happen if the government has to much power. I think he also wanted to write a book about self image and I think this because that is what the books about. The author wanted us to learn that we should be our selves and proud of it. Tally is the main character and she is very dynamic. She is dynamic because at first she hates the way she and all uglies look, but then after a couple of months in the Smoke, she learns to appreciate her and all uglies appearances. In a world of extreme beauty, anyone normal is ugly. It is basically the main idea. There are so many pretty people that before the operation the way you normally are is ugly.

Simon D. Blog 2

I have finished reading Eldest by Christopher Paolini. I finished reading from the halfway mark to the end and I enjoyed the book very much. In the second half, Eragon, the main character, finishes his first part of his training in Du Weldenervan, the great elven forest, under Orimis and Glaedr. Oromis is another rider and his dragon is Glaedr. They were one of the pairs that were on the Rider's Council before Galbatorix, the evil king, became mad and destroyed the Riders. The two escaped to Du Weldenervan so they could teach the next rider, who happens to be Eragon. In the second half of the book, it talks about Eragon finishing his training, but the bulk of the story focuses on the Varden, who are the freedom fighters against Galbatorix, and Eragon's cousin, Roran.
During the second half, Roran finds that his farm where he grew up at is destroyed and as he finds out, Galbatorix's soilders come to take Roran prisoner. He convinces the town to leave Carvahall after some fighting with the soilders. They escpae to the Varden and Roran is reunited with Eragon after he comes back to help the Varden. When Roran and Eragon meet, they are in the middle of the battle of the Burning Plains, where there are thousands of Galbatorix's soilders against the Varden, During the fight, Eragon is faced off against another Dragon and Rider, which shocks him, and even more so when he finds out that the Rider was an old friend, Murtagh. Eragon finds out that they are brothers, and again Eragon is shocked because he never knew his parents, least of a all knew he had a brother.
I think the book is good because paolini writes the book very well and is very appealing to teenagers that are into fantasy books, like me. He keeps the story moving and focuses on the important parts, and he juggles different characters, mainly Roran and Eragon, without losing you in the story.
I think that Paolini wanted to share his passion for fantasy adventures, because judging by his writing, he was into fantasy himself when he was younger.
I think the theme is that overcoming challanges and expierencing changes can be hard, but you learn from them. Eragon is constantly faced with problem after problem, but he gets through each one alive, and more grown. Every time he overcomes an obstacle, Eragon learns something new that he later puts to his advantage, wether it's a fighting technique, or just overall common sense, he puts it to use.
Eragon is by far the best character. He is a very smart, confident, and well-written character. he changes from being as farm boy to a Dragon Rider, which in itself is a great change, but along with being a Rider, he learns things that he never knew and becomes a more literate, knowledgeable, and courteous character. A cool quotation that I like is when Eragon's dragon, Saphira says: "With every great change comes turmoil." I like this quote because it syas the truth. Whenever there is a great change in your life, you will expierence turmoil, and if you get through it, you will be a better person.
Since I have read this book before, I do not have any questions.

Rachel Hebert-post one 10/10/12

I am reading a book called The Hobbit by J.R.R Tolkein. It is the first book in The Lord of The Rings series all about a different world(or possibly a future one) where goblins, dragons, and especially hobbits exist. I probably about 2/5 through the book so far, and alot has happened. Bilbo (the main character that just so happens to be a hobbit) sets off on a journey with thirteen or fourteen dwarves and his friend Wizard Gandalf the Gray. They're heading to a dwarf town( I don't mean a small town, I mean a town that was inhabited by dwarves) taken over by Smaug, a really old dragon, that's sitting on alot of gold that they want. They've been in tiffs(I like that word) with goblins and trolls and other things alot bigger than them, but still made it out unscathed. I just finished the part in the book where Bilbo gets lost and meets Smeagol/Gollum which is a really long story, but I'll keep it brief.
The book is really good so far, and I knew it would be because my sister and dad read it, and I knew most of what it was going to be like from The Lord Of The Rings and hearing them talk about it. I think the author wrote the book beacuse he probably had a whole bunch of ideas about mythical creatures and other things maybe since he was a kid and wanted to cram them all into a really good book about a Mystical world. And, using my sister as a source, he could have also wrote it because he was in World War One and there are theories that he used the different races in The Hobbit to reflect the different countries of the war.
I definately think there is more than one theme in the story, but one of the most important to me is that a person...or hobbit can escape their stereotype-yeah, I used that word, and become just as good, or better that those who think him inferior.
Of course ofr my favorte character I have to say Bilbo, becasue he's funny, adventurous, but also grounded. I also like Thorin, one of the dwarves, because he has a relatively normal name, and he's a leader-like dwarf.I think one of the main points that J.R.R. Tolkein is trying to get across is how much Bilbo grows by becoming more willing to do risky things and really become a hero.

"This thing all things devours:
  Birds, beasts, trees, flowers;
  Gnaws iron, bites steel;
  Grinds hard stones to meal;
  Slays king, ruins town,
  And beats high mountain down"

This is a riddle that Gollum asks to Bilbo, and if he answers wrong, he dies. Of course, since he's the main character, he has to guess right, which he does, and lives. I think It's important to the storyline because it shows alot about how much both Bilbo and Gollum know.
I don't really have any questions besides if they'll end up getting the treasure from Smaug and if there will be any fatalities.....except I already know that Bilbo won't die, because he's in the Lord of The Rings books, so yay!
By the way, the answer is time

~Lucas Kowalski~ Post 3

I am reading a book called The Sorceress. It is part of a series called The Secret Life of the Immortal Nicholas Flamel. The author of the of the series is Michael Scott. There are 483 pages in the book. In the book. Sophie defeated an ancient giant. Sophie has also learned the magic of water eith her twin brother Josh. Nicholas, Sophie, and Josh have now traveled to San Francisco in the blink of an eye by a ley line form Stone Henge in England. They have been reunited with Nicholas Flamell's wife. I think this book is great. There is lost of adventure and you don't know what will happen next. it keeps you turning the pages. I believe the author wrote this because he wanted something that lots of people would like and read. Also he probably like the idea and fundamentals of of magic. I believe the theme of the book is no matter what you will always have your family. I concur that the best character in the book would be Sophie. She has taken on the huge responsibility of magic and it has ginormous consequences and it is taking its toll. "Every use of magic is like running a marathon", this quotation is important because Every time they use magic it takes energy, lots of energy, an if they use too much the will burst into flames and die. i have no currently on my book.

Post Number Trois- Mary Shelly's Frankenstein

Katy Misel

I have finished reading Frankenstein, by Mary Shelly. I had left off on my last blog post Frankenstein the monster was feeling bad for himself, because he was different. He is having deep international conflict about his creation. So the monster and Victor make a deal. If Victor creates another one of his kind he will leave Victor alone. So Victor gets to work make a female monster for his first creation. But one night when he is working he begins to have thoughts about the monster terrorizing people together, and perhaps have babies and reproducing a whole race of devils. So in this thinking he destroys the progress of the creature he is making. Frankenstein the monster sees this and vows to be at the wedding of Victor and Elizabeth. Victor then collects his things and the body from the laboratory and throws them out to sea whaile on his canoe. The next morning when he is rowing back into the town, angery towns' people are there to greet him, and he is under suspicion for a murder the previous night. When the police (not really police) show Victor the body to see if her reacts to it, he discovers it is his old friend Henry Clerval, who helped him though his illness in the beginning of the book. Upon seeing his friend’s body he knows the monster (his creation) has killed him, and Victor falls into a two month sickness. When he awakens he is still in prison, but his father is there. They go through the trial and his found not guilty. When Victor and his father arrive home they begin to plan the wedding. But Victor is wary about the monsters promise to be there on his wedding night. But Victor is ready for the battle to take place. When the day finally arrives and Victor and Elizabeth are in their honey moon vaction house. Victor takes a walk around the home one last time after telling Elizabeth to go to bed. All of a sudden he hears a scream, and realizes the monster wasn't after him he was after Elizabeth. Victor gets back before it’s too late. Elizabeth is dead. Victor then returns home to tell his father the devastating news. Two days after hearing the news, Victors dad dies. Victor then devotes his life to finding and destroying the monster. After no luck of finding the monster, he runs into Walton (at the beginning of the novel this is where the letters came from). He then tells Walton his story and begs him to continue his search. After Victor dies on the ship Walton hears noise in the room that Victors dead body is being kept. When he goes to investigate he is startled to find the monster who is crying of the dead body of his creator. He proceeds to tell Walton how he never wanted to hurt anybody. He then says how he now wishes to die. He then walks off into the darkness. I ended up really enjoying this book. It did start of very slow and that's why I think I had a hard time getting going. But the book had action and romance. It had a lot of feeling that put you right into the action book. I defiantly think the main theme was that even though you can be privileged and have wealth you still have to do what's right in life and follow the rules, or bad things will happen. I definitely think Victor was the best character. He had kind of grown and changed, but I don’t really think for the better. "Did I request thee, Maker, from my clay. To mould me Man, did I solicit thee. From darkness to promote me?" In this quote Frankenstein the Monster is trying to say that he did not ask to be created. He did not want to be man. And when Victor did create him why leave him in the dark from all other things. Kind of like, you wanted me to be hear so why did you desert me. Victor is all the monster ever knew. And even then Victor didn't want him. I have no questions about my book. It's amazing how over the years this book is still popular and can even catch the attention of readers today.

Tanner Wymer I, Robot 10/5/12 Post 1

I am reading I, Robot a classic by Isaac Asimov. I am on page thirty-four. So far the main character is a little girl and she has a pet robot. Her parents thought she was spending too much time with the robot so they got rid of it. The girl isn't getting over not having the robot and they've tried everything. So they took her to the city to try to get her to forget about the robot but she thought they were going to the city to look for the robot. They start spoiling her in the city but nothing works, and thats all the further i've read. It's pretty good but I'm waiting for there to be more action I like books with more action. I think Isaac Asimov wrote this book because he was interested in the topic and wanted to learn more about it and share what he learned through a book. So far I'm not quite sure because I'm only on page thirty-four but I think it will be that you should learn to get over things because you cant always keep everything forever. I think the robot is the best character so far because he has been pretty much the center of attention the whole time. What did the parents even do with the robot? How much did the robot cost?

Post number Douze- Mary Shelly's Frankenstine

Katy Misel

I am continuing to read "Frankenstein" by Mary Shelly. I have now gotten to chapter 18. In the first few chapters Victors younger brother is found murdered. His sister, Justine, is convicted of the murder. Even though the night before he believes he sees the monster he has created lurking around the town of Geneva where his brother was killed. And their for believes that his monster is responsible for the death of his brother. Soon after Justine is proven guilty and is then executed. This places tremendous grief and depression on Victor. His father then takes Victor and Elizabeth on a small vacation to their home in Belrive. Where when taking a walk in the serene mountains Victor encounters his beast. Victor then over comes his fear of the beast he goes back to the monsters cave. Where the monster proceeds to tell Victor about his confusion of his creation. And his new understanding of light, darkness, hunger, thirst and cold. He tells Victor about his observances of a poverty stricken couple and how he would leave fresh wood for them at night. This tells me that the monster is reacquiring feelings. He also learns to speak by watching this couple secretly. He then proceeds to tell Victor about all the new things he has learned by secretly spying on this family. He learns their language, how to write, and even some history. But this saddens the monster because he doesn't know where he fits into the scheme of life. One day he finds books out in the woods and begins to read them. He feels he is becoming more intelligent and gets up the courage to finally go into the cottage. He decides to approach the blind house hold member, De Lacey, in hopes that he will see though to his gentle core. So one day while the others go out for a walk the monster thinks this will be the best time. So he enters the cottage but before he as time to explain his situation the others return and chase him out, frightened by his appearance. Yes, this book has become increasingly exciting. I think Mary Shelley defiantly wrote this book for the enjoyment of others. As the story goes it was her, her husband and a bunch of their friends that got together and told ghost stories. I think that Mary was just trying to have the best story. Which turned into a best seller. So far a major theme to me is depression, and feeling sad for yourself, but knowing that somebody has always got it worse. I think the coolest character is Frankenstein the Monster. He has determination and a burning will to be like everybody else. A very interesting quote was, I, the miserable and the abandoned, am an abortion, to be spurned at, and kicked, and trampled on. This shows how the monster felt about him self, this gives a great incite into what the monster was thinking about. I have no questions at this time.

Post Number Une- Mary Shelley's Frankenstein

Katy Misel

I am reading Frankenstein, a classic by Mary Shelley. I have read to chapter 5. This might not seem like far but the first pages are filled with introductions telling about the time period in which Mary Shelly lived and wrote the book. An some in site about what is going to happen in the book. Then it gives the preface which is these letters written by Robert Walton to his sister. The letters were very confusing at first but now as I am going though the book, a bit more, I can see that they are almost a kind of metaphor to the beginning of the book Frankenstein. So Far I have read about Victor Frankenstein's childhood and early life. How his father married his mother and about how the family acquired his adopted sister, (who Victor becomes convinced he will marry) and his leaving his home to go of to collage. Shortly before he leaves, though, his mother dies from a plague. This is really the beginning of much hardship endured by Victor. When he goes off to collage he becomes interested in natural sciences. This is where he begins to study about reanimation of life. For months he neglects everything he knows to create his final master piece. He becomes very sickly. On a stormy night Victor finally completes his master piece. But he is horrified at his creation, and runs out of the apartment. The next day he meets up will an old friend, and when Victor becomes ill later that day his friend takes care of him for several weeks. When he is well again their is a letter awaiting him from Elizabeth(sister). I do like the book so far. It was confusing at first and I wasn't sure if it would even make since to me. But as the actual chapters started it made more since. If I had to name one theme in the book so far its that even though Victor had a grate childhood you can't always bank on the future being the same way. You have to work for it. Really the only character is Victor. He has changed in many ways going from a happy go lucky kid to a angry, depressed young adult. A cool quote was "I will pioneer a new way, explore unknown powers, and unfold to the world the deepest mysteries of creation." This is important because it shows what Victor was thinking what he was doing, something good and worth while to better man kind. I have really no questions at this point in my book.

Josey Hajek 1st blog 9/30/12

I am reading the book " The Bone Yard" by Jefferson Bass. I am just starting the 3rd chapter. I learned about my main character. he is teacher in the forensics science depaetment. He make up makeshift crime scenes for his student to take information from. One of his students sisters has comitted suicide, but they think that it was really murder. angie ( who is his student) calls him and asks him to help her determine weather or not they believe it was suicide. Even though I am only on the 3rd chapter I can already tell that I will like this book because I want to work in the forensics departmant as well. I really like to read books with some kind of a twist and I feel that this book will have an exciting twist. I believe that the author wrote this because sometimes people die and nothing done to prove how they really did die. Somethime the wrong person is sent to jail for something that they truly didn't do. Maybe the author had something like this happen to him. He may have been thinking that sometimes you need to take a closer look at something befor you try to prove it. You need to dig a little deeper to find the turth. My favorite character so fare is Angie, she is trying to find out what treally happened to her sister. She dosen't believe that she would kill herself  and not say good bye. Her siters husband was said "I didn't hear the shotgun go off, I was sleeping". Even though he was a room away from where she killed heself. I am left woundering if she really shot herself, and if not, who did?

Carly Croy: First Blog 9/25/12

I'm reading this book called Thirteen Reasons Why, a novel by Jay Asher. I am about a third or a fourth of the way through the book. Right now the main character, Clay has been listening to tapes that were left on his doorstep. The tapes are of a girl you committed suicide named Hannah Baker and her thirteen reasons why she took her own life. This book is very realistic and I really like it so far, sometimes it's hard to put down. I like it because it's just so true, and the way the author narrorates Hannah Baker I feel like I know exactly how she would say it. Maybe Jay Asher wrote this book because he wanted to get a message out there about bullying and dark sides of people. The theme is being realistic to young adults to make them see that people around them actually are suicidal. There is only one character that we have actually met and that's Alex and he seems quiet and and to himself. And Hannah Baker, the one who made the tapes seems very forward and enthusiastic. I can't really tell who the best character is because there has only been a couple, and I don't know a lot about them. A quote by Hannah Baker is, "Did it hurt? No. But that doesn't matter, does it?" I think this is significant because when Hannah was hurt by this boy or whoever she's talking about she doesn't let it get to her, which is an important guideline in high school. I have no questions about this book.

Simon Duster 1st blog

I am currently reading a book called Eldest, by Christopher Paolini. I have read about halfway through the book and I am liking the book a lot, just like I did last time. The book is the second in the Eragon series. It is a story of a teenage boy named Eragon, who comes across a dragon egg, without knowing what it was, and having his life changed beyond reason. He has to escape the evil king Galbatorix, who controls most of the land and is also a Dragon Rider, like Eragon. Eragon is put into a world of magic and has to travel with Brom to reach the Varden. The Varden are the freedom fighters against the king thatr Eragon has decided to join to help stop Galbatorix.
Eldest picks up on Eragon after the first book and continues his journey to become a great rider so that he could eventually defeat Galbatorix. I think that this book is really good, especially for teenage kids who are into fantasy books, like me. Paolini has a way of writing the book in a flowing method while keeping the storyline going. He jumps between two people's stories and does it very well by leaving off with one person, and writing the story of the other to "catch-up" to the other, so you don't get confused on what is happening.
I think that Paolini wrote this book for his family and also just for fans. I can tell that he loves fantasy and is very good at writing the storyline because he includes very good details and descriptions that are easy to put an image in your mind and create a very good story. The theme of the story is, well, a sort of problem-sloving theme. Paolini writes this book to show how overcoming great challenges can be very hard, but satisfing at the end, which he expresses through Eragon. I think Eragon is the best character and since he is the main character, paolini spends a lot of time focusing on him and Eragon grows to be a smart, confident, and thoughtful character, whereas before, he was just a farmer with a simple life.
One cool quotation from the book is when Eragon's teacher says, "Those whom we love are often the most alien to us." I think that the quotation is important to the story because Eragon realizes that he doesn't understand Saphira as much as he thought. I alos think that it is important because once you think about it, it is true, and I think that paolini put that quote in the story to go with the story, but also to try to connect to us and make us think about our lives. It is like him giving us a piece of advice throught the book.
I have no questions about the book since I have read teh series already and I am enjoying the book and encourage others to read it.

Post 2- Lucas Kowalski

I have finished reading a book called The Magician. It is part of a series called The Secrets of the Immortal Nicholas Flamel. The author of the of the series is Michael Scott. The book is 461 pages long. Since my last blog in the book Nicholas Flamel, Sophie, and Josh are in Paris. Josh and Sophie have killed Nidhogg, a ancient reptilian monster, with Clarent, the ancient sword of fire. Also Dragon has taken Scatty. Josh has had is powers awakened. Nicholas Flamel, Sophie, and Josh have gone to England. I have no currently no questions on my book.
