I am reading The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins.I just finished the book. The gamekeepers changed the rule that if there are two tributes from the same district, they can both be the winners of the Hunger Games. Katniss goes and finds Peeta by the lake and he has an injury. She and him hide in a cave so they don't get caught. The gamekeepers announce that at the Cornucopia will be a package that will help each of the tributes. While Peeta is asleep, Katniss goes and gets the package and brings it back to the cave. Inside the package is medicine that they use to heal Peeta's leg. The next morning Peeta's leg is healed and they go out hunting. It quickly becomes dark and they start being chased by wild dogs who lead them to the last and dangerous tribute, Cato. Katniss and Peeta fight Cato and then he dies by getting ripped apart by the dogs. The sun rises and they announce that the rule about two tributes winning will not happen and that there will only be one winner. They both can't decide who is going to die, so Katniss gives them both berries that will kill them instantly. Right before they were about to eat it, it was announced that they both will be the winners of the Hunger Games.
I think the book is really good. It always kept me reading and there wasn't a part where it wasn't good. The action continued throughout the whole book. I think Suzanne wrote this book because it has something that everyone can enjoy like: friendship, action, and a love story. The theme in this story is loyalty, bravery, and friendship. The way the Katniss went to go find Peeta, so that they both had a shot at winning the games.
I think the best character is still Katniss. She's such a strong girl, she's a good friend, and she'll do anything for anyone. She has really grown because she never really trusted or liked Peeta, but now she was willing to do anything for him.
"You won't get a hundred yards from here on that leg." I say. "Then I'll drag myself," say Peeta. "You go and I'm going, too." It's important because it shows how much Peeta cares about Katniss and how he doesn't want her to go out and risk her life for him.
A question that I have is: Why do they make twelve year old kids compete in the games?
