Lorin Brokaw's Blog 1 About Uglies

I am reading a book called Uglies. Uglies is by Scott Westerfeld. I have finished the book. It is a futuristic book about a girl named Tally. Tally is about to turn sixteen and pretty when her friend Shay runs away from the city. The mean and cruel specials make her go after shay to a place called the Smoke, where rebellious uglies who don't want to turn pretty go. After a long and dangerous journey Tally makes it to the Smoke where she learns a terrible secret that makes her want to stay ugly, falls and love, and accidentally destroys the Smoke. I think that this book is good because it makes you appreciate that we are all different and that the government isn't the way it is in the book. I think the author wrote this because the he was interested in writing about the future and what would happen if the government has to much power. I think he also wanted to write a book about self image and I think this because that is what the books about. The author wanted us to learn that we should be our selves and proud of it. Tally is the main character and she is very dynamic. She is dynamic because at first she hates the way she and all uglies look, but then after a couple of months in the Smoke, she learns to appreciate her and all uglies appearances. In a world of extreme beauty, anyone normal is ugly. It is basically the main idea. There are so many pretty people that before the operation the way you normally are is ugly.
