Alex Felton Blog Post 3

I am reading the Maze Runner by James Dashner. I am almost done with the book. It is about a boy, named Thomas, and he was sent up an elevator one day and brought into a new world, the Glade. The Glade is a place that was made by people. In the Glade, are boys of ages ranging from 12 to 20, they have made a life of their own for two years. It is a huge stone-enclosed area that has doors that open in the day. The stone walls open up to a huge maze that the Gladers have been trying to solve for two years, but have had no luck. Not much has happened in the Glade, every 30 days a new boy is sent up the elevator, with their memory wiped clean. But this all changes when Thomas shows up in the elevator, that day things start to become weird around there. Then, the very next day a girl shows up, and her and Thomas find out that they have a connection and they are telepathic. From that day on things dramatically change and Thomas and the girl, Teresa start to figure out how the Gladers can escape the Glade. Right now I am where they have just devised a plan and are leaving to go see if it works. Their plan seems simple, but it is very scary and hard to do. I am excited to see the outcome; if they escape or not.
I really like this book, it keeps you guessing and on your toes. I like the authors way of thinking and describing the story. I can't wait to see what happens at the end!
I think that the author either had a dream about the future, or let his mind run wild. The book is so weird and good at the same time. It is cool how he takes the future and his imagination and writes about it. This guy has pretty cool ideas, and that is why I think he wrote the Maze Runner.
I think the theme is bravery. To go through what these kids are going through, you have to be very brave and trust yourself. They are doing stuff that no one would imagine having to do as an adult, better yet a child. Thomas plays a very brave person in this novel and its really cool how the author describes it.
My favorite character is Chuck. Chuck is Thomas's friend. Even in the darkest times in the Glade, Chuck is always upbeat and motivating to the other Gladers. Chuck does anything he is asked of and never refuses to stop trying to help to escape the maze. Even when Thomas doesn't realize it, Chuck is always there for him if he falls down. Chuck is a character in the book, but anyone would want someone like him as their friend.
"You can do this." This is a quote from the book. It is what Thomas thinks to himself as they leave for their plan. I thought it was important because it shows that he still has hope and he will always be fighting to escape the maze.
My question is: Will they escape the maze?
